APPLICATION for DEGREE / CERTIFICATE

All potential December graduates are required to submit an Application for Degree/Certificate to the Student Records Office, Room 6-010 by December 1, 2017 for the December graduation.

CAP & GOWN ORDERS

Caps and gowns may be picked up in the JCC Bookstore beginning November 27, 2017 in the JCC Bookstore (315-786-2260).  The cost of your cap and gown is included in your student life fee.  

There is no need to pre-order your cap and gown, however students who want to participate in the Commencement Ceremony must pick up their cap & gown by December 8, 2017.

TICKET INFORMATION

Commencement participants can receive up to three (3) guest tickets for Sturtz Theater seating when picking up cap and gown from the JCC Bookstore. You must be participating in the ceremony to receive guest tickets.  Guests without a ticket are welcome to view the ceremony live via closed circuit telecast in the Jules Center Amphitheater (Room 6-002).

RESERVED SEATING ~ SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS

Reserved seating for those needing special accommodations (i.e. difficulty with stairs, use of wheelchair or walkers) can be requested. The graduating student must stop in the Bookstore to complete an accommodative needs seating request form.  It is important that the form is completed and submitted prior to December 8 so that the College may easily accommodate all requests.

CHILDREN & FREE CHILDCARE

Children attending the ceremony must have a ticket and be accompanied by an adult. Strollers are not permitted in the Sturtz Theater.

Jefferson Campus Care will provide free childcare during the Commencement Ceremony and Reception (5:15 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) for children of both participants and their guests. Children must be aged 18 months – 12 years old. Please contact Jefferson Campus Care at 786-2357 by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 to register; walk-ins will not be permitted.

COMMENCEMENT REHEARSAL: Friday December 15, 2017

A brief commencement rehearsal will take place at 11:15 a.m. (just prior to Senior Send-off taking place from 12:00-2:30 p.m.).  Graduating students should meet Faculty Marshals in the McVean Student Center gymnasium at 11:15 a.m.

SENIOR SEND-OFF: Friday, December 15, 2017

Senior Send-Off, a free luncheon for graduates with music and prizes, begins at 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. in the McVean Student Center gymnasium.

COMMENCEMENT – WHEN/WHERE TO ARRIVE

Students: All participants are to report to the McVean Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. robed and ready to line-up. The locker rooms will be available and assistance with caps and gowns will be available in the gym.   Marshals will be available at 5:30 p.m. to assist graduates with proper line-up.

Guests:  Guests may park in Lot C and enter the Jules Center under the canopy.  The Sturtz Theater doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Handicapped /special needs guests may also disembark at this entrance. Guest tickets (for adults and children) must be presented to enter the Sturtz Theater.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Professional Photos: A professional photographer will be at Commencement to photograph all participants as they cross the stage and receive their credentials. Proofs of the photos will be available online 2-3 days after the ceremony at www.geneseephoto.com and also mailed to graduates.  You may place an order IF YOU SO CHOOSE. You are under no obligation to purchase photos taken at Commencement. Photo Room:  The College has added an official photo room to commencement festivities for all families and friends that want to take personal pictures after the ceremony. Located in the Walker Instructional Dining Room, directly across from the Bookstore, we will welcome graduates, friends and families to have their picture taken and we will have staff on hand to help by taking the pictures for you.

WEBCAST OF CEREMONY

Jefferson will videostream the College's Commencement exercises via www.sunyjefferson.edu.

LEAVE YOUR GRADUATE'S MARK ON CAMPUS

Honor your graduate and his or her achievements by leaving a unique gift of an engraved paver on campus! Engraved pavers will be placed at the center of Jefferson's campus, in the area surrounding the Haas Clocktower, where it will be enjoyed for years to come by our students and their families, faculty and community members. Your gift will also help the JCC Foundation continue its mission of supporting student scholarships and campus initiatives. Reserve your paver online. JCC graduates will receive a free 1-year membership in the JCC Alumni Association with purchase of a paver. For more information, contact the JCC Foundation at 315-786-2458.

COMMENCEMENT VIDEO/DVD

A video of Jefferson's Commencement Ceremony will be available in segments for free on YouTube (search for Jefferson Community College on YouTube). A DVD of Jefferson’s  Commencement Ceremony will also be available for purchase ($10) by calling the Bookstore at 315-786-2260.

FOLLOWING THE CEREMONY

Guests are asked to remain seated until the entire academic procession has exited.

A reception with light refreshments will be held in the Jules Center Commons for graduates and guests.

The JCC Bookstore (in the Jules Center), will be open on the evening of commencement from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

DIPLOMAS

Only diploma covers will be handed out at Commencement. Diplomas are mailed mid–January following a graduation audit of your records.
