Jefferson Residence Hall Project Information and Updates now available Online

It is not too soon for high school seniors and prospective college students to start exploring housing options at Jefferson Community College for the Fall 2014 semester.   Construction of the College’s brand new residence hall on campus is well underway and those interested can sign up for a monthly housing update email and keep tabs on the construction via a web cam link on www.sunyjefferson.edu.  Complete information about the residence halls including suite configurations, housing costs, and frequently asked questions are available under “Campus Life” and clicking on “Student Housing.”

Scheduled to open in August 2014, the 298-bed residence hall will provide an opportunity for students who wish to live away from home, or for whom the commute is simply too far, to reside on the Jefferson campus while attending college.  Jefferson joins the more than half of SUNY’s 33 community colleges that currently offer, or are in the process of building, student housing.   Housing will be available for full-time students who are enrolled in a degree program.   By mid-October, students will be able to apply for housing online after they complete the application for admission to Jefferson.

“Students can now combine the quality of a Jefferson education, the affordability of our tuition and our record of student success with the experience of living at college,” said Betsy D. Penrose, vice president for students.   “We are creating a dynamic living and learning environment with a vibrant campus life and focus on academic success.”

The 98,000 square foot residence hall is “L” shaped, with two four story wings merging with a single story commons area.   The commons area will include study lounges, classrooms, computer nook and large group meeting room, along with storage and office space.  The living space features a combination of single and double bedrooms in spacious suites designed for 6-person, 5-person, and 4-person occupancy. Two professional residence directors and eight student resident assistants will live in the residence hall and be available to assist students.

Each suite is fully furnished including a kitchenette with a sink, microwave, refrigerator, cabinetry, countertop and stools; and a living room with a couch and chairs.  Amenities include a laundry room and study lounge on every floor, vending, wireless internet through the entire building, cable television in commons areas and cable hook-ups in each suite, controlled building access and 24-hour campus security.  The residence hall will be located on the corner of Campus Drive and Rand Drive, within short walking distance to all campus buildings and athletic facilities.

The residence hall will be owned by the Faculty Student Association Auxiliary LLC.  The Faculty Student Association (FSA) is a not-for-profit organization that provides ancillary services in support of the mission of Jefferson Community College.  For more information or to sign up for a monthly housing update email, please visit www.sunyjefferson.edu or contact the Office of Residence Life at reslife@sunyjefferson.edu or 315-755-0411.
