JCC Earth Week Activities April 20-24

Jefferson Community College (JCC) will hold an Earth Week Celebration beginning Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24, 2015 with several scheduled activities to raise awareness of environmental issues such as sustainability, climate stabilization and population management.

The weeklong celebration will include daily lectures. In addition to lectures, JCC will offer many eco-friendly contests and activities for students such as a tree and flower identification photo contest, a campus trail pick-up followed by a hiking and biking event, can-it contest whereby campus clubs and organizations compete to collect the most deposit bottles/cans, a seedling sale and an Arbor Day tree planting project. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to initiate their own ecological resolution or energy saving activity. Lectures are free admission and open to the public.

Monday, April 20 - North Country Updates on Recycling & Waste Management

Wednesday, April 22 - It’s All About the Water
Jules Center, Room 6-100 / 12:20 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Lecturer: Steven A. Porter, Energy Program Director at JCC

Thursday, April 23 - Advanced Composting: From the Backyard to Capitol Hill
Jules Center, Room 6-100  / 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Lecturer: Sayre Stevens, Cornell Cooperative Extension

Friday, April 24 - H2O’s Trail to the Tap & Tour the Campus Arboretum Trail 
Jules Center, Room 6-100 / 12:20 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Presenter: Matthew R. Lambert, chair of the JCC EverGREEN Committee, and Megan Pistolese.

Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony @ 1:45 p.m. (immediately following presentation).
Planting will take place on the Quad.
