JCC Honors Distinguished Alumni & Hall of Fame Inductees

Jefferson Community College (JCC) held its annual Distinguished Alumni and Cannoneer Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on August 13, 2015. Three distinguished alumni were recognized for their professional achievement and exemplary commitment to their community and Jefferson Community College. Three new members were inducted into the Class of 2015 Cannoneer Hall of Fame for their outstanding athletic success and significant contributions to JCC’s athletic program.   

The 2015 Distinguished Alumni honorees are Renee E. Bowers, Class of 1982, Michael D. Steele, Class of 2000, and Courtney A. Bauer, Class of 1988. Mrs. Bowers, of Williamsville, received the Professional Achievement Award for her significant professional growth and leadership abilities. Mr. Steele of Casper, Wyoming, received the Rising Star Award for exhibiting a promise for continued success. Ms. Bauer, of Redfield, received the Jeffersonian Award for volunteerism, civic involvement, and humanitarian undertakings.

The Cannoneer Hall of Fame Class of 2015 inductees are Charity M. Smykla, of Copenhagen, former athlete who led the Lady Cannoneers soccer team to their first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Championship; Robert Williams Jr. of Charleston, West Virginia, former coach who led the Cannoneers to the NJCAA Region III basketball championship; and John A. O’Donnell, of Watertown, longtime supporter of Jefferson athletics and retired sportswriter who covered Jefferson sports for 41 years. Since its inception in 2009, Jefferson has inducted 27 members into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
