2015 NCWF Events & Winners of Writer's Contest Announced

A public reception and writers contest reading will be held Thursday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the McVean Center student lounge at Jefferson Community College (JCC) to recognize the winners of the 2015 North Country Writers Contest. In August, the JCC English department sought entries for short fiction, essay/nonfiction and poetry. 

The 2015 North Country Writers Contest winners are:

  • Short Fiction Winner:     
    Jeffrey L. Henry, of Watertown, “Winter’s Last Grip”
  • Essay/Nonfiction Winner:  
    Bob Comenole, of Watertown, “Watertown Stickball, 1969”
  • Poetry Winner:
    Amy L. Durant, of Watertown, “Sagamore”

Philip D. Sweet, of Watertown, received honorable mention for his short fiction entry, “Playground.” Marilyn K. Neulieb, of Theresa, received honorable mention for her essay, “Amish Quilt.”  Siraj A. Sindhu, of Watertown, received honorable mention for her poem, “The Mill.”

Winning writers were awarded $100 while those receiving honorable mention were awarded $25. Both winning and honorable mention submissions will be published online in October.  All six contestants are invited to read their winning entry at the Writers Contest Reading and reception.

The Writers Contest Reading and reception are part of a week-long Writers Festival at JCC beginning Monday, October 26 through Friday, October 30. The public is invited to participate in the following Writers Festival events:
