JCC Student, Lauren D. Kent, to Give Testimony at Hearing held by the Republican Policy Committee

Jefferson Community College (JCC) student Lauren D. Kent, Watertown, will travel to Washington, D.C. and testify before the House of Representatives Republican Policy Committee (RPC) on challenges facing millennial college students.  The hearing, which will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m., is titled “Millennials and the GOP: College Completion, Flexibility and Affordability for an Emerging Generation.”  Republican Elise Stefanik (NY-21) heads the RPC Millennial Taskforce and will chair the hearing.

Kent is the only student advocate on the panel which also includes Stan Jones, President of Complete College America;  Jack Remondi, President & CEO of Navient Corporation; and Jim Kennedy, Associate Vice-President & Director of Financial Aid at Indiana University.

Kent of Watertown, is a mathematics and science major at Jefferson, is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a mother of three, a military spouse, and dedicated college student.  During her time at JCC, Lauren has served her peers as a tutor in chemistry and mathematics and is president of Jefferson’s Tau Xi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In the summer of 2015 Lauren spent three weeks in South Africa as a part of the Phi Theta Kappa International Scholar Laureate Program. There, she participated in panels and discussions dedicated to improving the status of healthcare in the country. Lauren is looking forward to testifying on behalf of her fellow millennial college students in Washington D.C.
