Star Party to be held at JCC on April 7

Jefferson Community College (JCC) and EDGE on Science will co-host a Star Party on Friday, April 7 at 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at JCC. The Star Party will take place behind East Hall, the College’s residence halls. Parking will be available in Lot F and signs will be provided to direct visitors. There is no cost to attend and guests are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own telescopes and binoculars.

The Star Party will be led by John Aviste, founder of Edge on Science. Using a special solar filter, stargazers will have a safe direct view of the sun. When twilight falls, focus will shift to the moon and its craters and seas (called mare) along with Jupiter and its perpetual storms that appear as colored bands and even swirls.

The Star Party at JCC is geared towards all ages, young children and adults alike. For more information, contact the JCC Continuing Education Division at 315-786-2233.
