Kids Workshop, Hydraulics Makerspace, to be held during Spring Break

Jefferson Community College (JCC) Continuing Education Division will hold Hydraulics Makerspace, a 3-day workshop for kids ages 10-14, on Monday, April 17 through Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hydraulics Makerspace, made possible through a partnership between JCC and Edge on Science, will take place on JCC’s campus during the week of spring break for many North Country schools. Registration is ongoing and will close April 10, 2017.
John Aviste, professional engineer and founder of Edge on Science, will instruct the workshop. Students will learn what makes simple machines work and how to design and build their own hydraulic machines using an assortment of components. Students will be given an engineering objective, such as design and build a hydraulic machine to lift a model spaceship onto its launch pad or create a hydraulic, articulated arm that could support a video camera for the purposes of safely inspecting earthquake damage.
Edge on Science offers a discovery based, fun approach to learning science and engineering for all ages.
Cost, including all materials, is $325. Students are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch. To register, go to or call the JCC Continuing Education Division at 315-786- 2233.
