Super Science Saturday to be held February 3

Take a break from the North Country winter and come play in the sand at Jefferson Community College (JCC)! Super Science Saturday (SSS), a celebration of math and science and an exploration of science careers, will take place on February 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Although designed for students in grades 5-8, all family members are welcome to attend. Admission is free.

SSS showcases interactive exhibits and hands-on demonstrations including a cool sand exhibit that explores the properties of sand that behave like a fluid! Students will see how much fun science can be and take a stroll through the super colon, a 20-foot long inflatable colon. JCC faculty, assisted by current students, will give demonstrations in zoo keeping, chemistry, biology, geology, math, engineering and health-related careers. SSS will feature a chemistry magic show presented by James Peploski of Clarkson University and a lights, lasers and energy show presented by Thomas C. Altman. Several community organizations will be on hand to share career information and provide interactive activities with students.

SSS will take place at JCC in the Jules Center, McVean Student Center, Guthrie Science Building and the Gregor Building. Concessions, parking, a campus map and programs will be available at the event.

For more information, call the Science Division at JCC, 315-786-2320.

Super Science Saturday is sponsored by WWNY TV 7 / WNYF Fox 28, JCC Foundation, Faculty Student Association, Social Cultural Committee, and the Science Division at JCC. The inflatable colon is made possible by the JCC Campus Activities Board.
