Larch

Margot Jacoby

You

stand tall

straight and lean

tapering, an evergreen

your soft slender needles

cluster and blend with other

conifers until fall’s surprise, you’re

no longer disguised: you burst into

golden brilliance capturing the autumnal

equinox glow, and our breath as you

shimmer in your ornamental gown that

soon sheds in a deciduous dusting exposing

your bark

reddish-

brown in

pure stand.
