Jefferson Designated 2019 Military Friendly School

Jefferson Community College (JCC) has earned the 2019 Military Friendly® School designation by VIQTORY, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, Military Spouse and Military Friendly®. Jefferson was first designated a military friendly school in 2012, then again in 2013 and 2017.
Military Friendly® Schools, first published in 2009, is provided to service members and their families, helping them select the best college, university, or trade school to receive the education and training needed to pursue a civilian career. Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from VIQTORY’s proprietary survey. This year, 766 schools earned this prestigious designation.
Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by VIQTORY with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Ernst & Young (EY), a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services, independently evaluated the scoring methodology used for the Military Friendly® Schools list using the criteria set forth by VIQTORY. The services performed by EY are were limited to advisory procedures and do not provide assurance over the scoring methodology.
Currently, 40% of Jefferson’s enrollment is comprised of active duty Soldiers, spouses, children, veterans, retirees and reservists. The College has been a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges program since 1985 and is a Veteran’s Administration-approved college. Specific services to Soldiers and veterans include Jefferson staff on Fort Drum at the Education Center Annex, a veteran’s services education coordinator and veteran’s school certifying official on campus and a dedicated study area and tutoring services for veterans. Jefferson is committed to providing flexible academic programs and workforce training opportunities through coursework offered on campus, online and on Fort Drum. Courses are offered in flexible 4-week, 8-week and 15-week formats. Six degrees and 1 certificate can be earned entirely online and several degrees can be earned by taking classes evenings only. Jefferson accepts credit from numerous standardized examinations such as CLEP and Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) as well as awards credit for military experience and training.

The Military Friendly ® Schools list is created each year based on extensive research
using public data sources for more than 8,800 schools nationwide, input from
student veterans, and responses to the proprietary, data-driven Military Friendly®
Schools survey from participating institutions. The survey questions, methodology,
criteria, and weighting were developed with the assistance of an independent research
firm and an advisory council of educators and employers. Ernst & Young, a global leader
in assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services, independently evaluated the
scoring methodology used for the Military Friendly® Schools list using the criteria
set forth by VIQTORY. The services performed by EY are were limited to advisory procedures
and do not provide
assurance over the scoring methodology. The survey is administered for free and is
open to all post-secondary schools that wish to participate. Criteria for consideration
