Middle States Commission on Higher Education

Jefferson Community College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 1007 North Orange Street, 4th Floor, MB #166, Wilmington, DE 19801. (267-284-5011) www.msche.org. The MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

The College was granted accreditation in 1969.

Jefferson Community College has additional locations at the Fort Drum US Military Installation, at Cape Vincent, Gouverneur, and Watertown Correction Facilities and offers coursework at all high schools in Jefferson County as well at selected high schools in Lewis, Oswego, and St. Lawrence Counties of New York State.  Coursework supporting programs is offered at numerous locations within the Central and Northern New York Region including at the Lewis County Education Center. The College is approved to offer many of its programs by distance learning.

Institutional Approval to Operate

Jefferson Community College was chartered in 1961 to operate as a community college and award associate degrees and lower division certificates in the state of New York by the New York State Education Department, Office of Higher Education, Room 977 Education Building Annex, Albany, NY 12234 (518-486-2572).

Since its inception in 1961, Jefferson Community College has been sponsored by Jefferson County under the supervision of the State University of New York.  As one of the 30 community colleges in the state, all of its programs are registered and approved by the New York State Department of Education with the authority to award certificates and associate’s degrees in arts, science, applied science, and occupational studies.

Jefferson Community College’s EDGE Concurrent Enrollment Program is accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships, PO Box 578 Chapel Hill, NC 27514 (919-593-5205) www.nacep.org.

The College’s EDGE Concurrent Enrollment Program was granted accreditation in 2008.
