Program Description

This online Certified Medical Administrative Assistant + Medical Terminology course will teach you medical terminology and how to become a valuable member of the healthcare team as an administrative medical assistant who handles a broad range of duties and is a skilled multitasker who directs the flow of patients through an office. Adequate patient flow allows the practice to operate efficiently, increase revenue, and provide a positive experience for the patient.

Their duties include maintaining the reception area, welcoming patients and visitors, scheduling appointments, gathering demographic information, verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining prior authorizations, collecting copayments, and communicating via the phone and patient portal. This online medical administrative assistant course will prepare you for positions working alongside medical providers performing these administrative duties.

The medical terminology course introduces key concepts of medical language and human anatomy, emphasizing the interconnectedness of body systems in health and disease. The curriculum covers topics such as the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, and immune systems, along with mental health and special senses, with exams at the midterm and final stages. Students with prior knowledge can optionally test out by achieving a minimum score of 80%, replacing course content if desired. It is important to understand that this course feature only applies to the online Medical Terminology course, the standalone course, or advanced career training course bundles that include Medical Terminology.

Upon completing this course, you will be prepared for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) national certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This online medical administrative assistant certification course includes a voucher that covers the fee for the exam.

MyCAA funding may be available for eligible individuals pursuing or maintaining a license, certification, or associate degree—including continuing education courses. The credential must align with the military spouse’s career goals and be obtained from a participating institution.

Important Funding Details:

  • MyCAA provides up to $2,000 toward tuition and approved certification.
  • It does not cover books, supplies, equipment, uniforms, computers, or electronic devices.
