The programs cover areas in the healthcare field as well as in the health information technology field and can be taken on campus in the evenings, one or two times per week

May 7, 2019 - September 24, 2019 - Lowville, Lewis County Education Center

This program will prepare you for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare.

  • You will learn to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office
  • You will learn routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy, how to prepare patients for examination and treatment and much more
  • 140 hours of classroom lecture, hands on labs and an optional 160 hour clinical externship
  • Upon successful completion of this program, you will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination

This program will prepare you for a career in medical billing and coding.

  • You will learn the skills needed to accurately code provider encounters
  • You will discuss billing practices and how to manually submit an insurance claim
  • You will learn the skills needed to correctly abstract information from a patient record, apply coding guidelines and follow reimbursement procedures to optimize physician payment
  • You will gain an understanding of HIPPA, confidentiality, and how to successfully manage the medical business office
  • 98 hours of classroom lecture
  • After successful completion of the course, you may want to obtain a certification in medical coding for an additional cost through one of the entities that offers the certification.

Additional information regarding the certification will be provided during the course.

This program will prepare you to start a career as a care coordinator or to advance your skills and knowledge as an existing care coordination professional.

  • You will be prepared to work together in interdisciplinary teams with a patient
  • You will learn how to assist regional and statewide initiatives to reduce potentially preventable hospital admissions
  • For both NEW students and EXISTING care coordination professionals
  • Topics include: Introduction to Care Coordination, Knowledge of Behavioral Health, Medical Terminology, Cultural Competency, Awareness of Individual Bias, Ethics and Customer Service, Documentation, Privacy and Security, and Electronic Health Records, Engagement and Assessment, Quality, Accountability, Performance and Process Improvement, and Evidence-based Practice, Crisis Intervention, Safe Environment and Conflict Management, Self-Care, Networking and Knowledge of Community Resources, Motivational Interviewing, Communication and Health Literacy, Payment Systems.

March 18, 2019 - May 06, 2019 Watertown, Jefferson main campus
May 7, 2019 - June 25, 2019 - Lowville, Lewis County Education Center

This program will prepare you to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s (PTCB) exam.

  • You will learn medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names
  • You will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement
  • This program includes a graded final exam to help prepare you for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s exam
  • 50 hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam.

May 6, 2019 - August 7, 2019 - Lowville, Lewis County Education Center

This program prepares you to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.

  • You will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely
  • Classroom work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and clinical training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods
  • The program also includes lab exercises, live blood draws, work with a training arm and other exercises intended to prepare students to function as an entry level Phlebotomy Technician
