Jakayla Spence Named Jefferson Athlete of the Week

Sophomore guard, Jakayla A. Spence of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) women’s basketball team, was named JCC athlete of the week for the week ending January 11, 2026.
Spence, a 2024 graduate of Lowville Academy, is majoring in Physical Education at Jefferson. This past week, Jakayla delivered a strong all-around performance, making a significant impact for the Lady Cannoneers in two important matchups as Jefferson continues its strong start to the season with a 7–3 record and an 8th-place national ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
In the game versus Monroe Community College, Jakayla contributed 6 points and led the effort on the glass with 9 rebounds, providing toughness and energy in the paint while anchoring the defensive end of the floor. In Jefferson’s matchup versus Jamestown Community College, Jakayla elevated her play offensively, scoring 15 points while shooting an efficient 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. She also added 3 rebounds and continued to apply constant defensive pressure throughout the game.
