Keely Cooney Named JCC Athlete of the Week
Published: October 14, 2024
Sophomore goalie, Keely Cooney, of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) women’s soccer team was named JCC athlete of the week for the week ending October 13, 2024.
Keely, a 2023 graduate of Immaculate Heart Central, is majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences at Jefferson. This past week, Cooney gave an inspiring performance in the team's match versus the Onondaga Community College (OCC) Lazers. Nationally ranked OCC bombarded the Cannoneers with over 30 shots, but Jefferson's goalkeeper, Keely, stood like a fortress. She turned away nearly everything that came her way, allowing only three to slip through. Even when OCC was awarded a late penalty kick, Keely rose to the challenge and denied them once again. Her leadership, determination, and skill in the goal kept the scoreline respectable and has earned her the status of Player of the Match and now Jefferson Athlete of the Week.

Chemistry Students Conduct Advanced Research at Clarkson University
Chemistry students at Jefferson Community College (JCC) recently gained advanced, hands-on research experience through a collaborative project with Clarkson University. As part of their Honors Program chemistry research, students extracted pectin from fruit in Jefferson's laboratories under the guidance of Instructor Rabab Aoun, Ph.D., to explore how this natural material can enhance aerogels used in applications such as wound dressings, food gels, and agriculture.
