Mason C. Patnode Named JCC Athlete of the Week
Published: February 11, 2025
Freshman goalie, Mason C. Patnode, of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) hockey team was named JCC athlete of the week for the week ending February 9, 2025.
Mason, a 2024 graduate of Peru Central Junior-Senior High School, is majoring in Criminal Justice at Jefferson. Patnode has been a game-changer for the Cannoneers over the past several weeks! Since returning from break, Mason has been on a winning streak, securing five consecutive victories against formidable opponents. He kicked things off with a thrilling win in a game he shared with Darius Groat against Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Division I powerhouse Cornell University. Mason then dominated on the road with a 7-3 triumph over SUNY Canton and a 7-4 victory against Union College, one of the top teams in AAU Division II.
However, Mason's top achievement came this weekend during the Second Annual Winter Carnival game held in Saranac Lake against Paul Smith’s College (PSC). With PSC boasting an impressive 17-6 record and a powerful offensive lineup, Mason took charge from the first whistle and never looked back. Mason was in his element playing at the Saranac Lake Arena, his high school home rink. He shut down PSC in the first period, not allowing any goals despite facing over 20 shots. Mason went on to face a staggering 55 shots but held PSC at bay, allowing only two goals and paving the way for a spectacular 6-2 victory for the Cannoneers.
Two of the most impressive aspects of Mason's performance since returning from semester break is his flawless 5-0 record and .935 save percentage. Mason Patnode is truly a force to be reckoned with!
