Published: July 01, 2025

Don’t miss out! Jefferson Community College (JCC) and The CDL School is offering a 5-week CDL Class A training again in Lowville at the Lewis County JCC Education Center. Training will be held Monday through Friday, July 14, 2025 to August 8, 2025 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the Department of Transportation (DOT) CDL Class A license exam. Individuals must be a minimum of 21 years of age to enroll.

CDL A training prepares students to be qualified to drive both an automatic and manual tractor trailer without any restrictions such as a dump truck, straight truck, or snowplow to name a few. This training is for individuals seeking to qualify for the Class A CDL Skills test.

The curriculum of CDL A training prepares students to meet Theory and Behind The Wheel Vehicle training per the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. The curriculum is 192 hours in length and consists of three parts. The first part is 80 hours of classroom, lab, and Learning Management System (LMS) instruction. Completion of this part leads to the ELDT Theory certification and Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). The second part is 110 hours of Behind the Wheel (BTW) vehicle instruction to prepare the student for FMCSA Range and Public Road ELDT proficiency requirements for the Class A CDL skills test (road test). The final portion of the program is allotted for 2 hours to complete the state Skills Test (road test). Preparation and scheduling for the CDL Skills test on a manual transmission vehicle is included.

Tuition is $9,495. Funding may be available for qualified applicants. Participants must complete the DOT physical as a prerequisite for admission and a drug test must be taken upon passing the CDL A permit, prior to behind the wheel vehicle training. The cost of the license upgrade from Class D to Class A is not included.

Don't miss out. Request an application today. Inquiries may be directed to The CDL School at (315) 679-2237.
