Jefferson Community College criminal justice student, Martin P. Daniels, Parish, received a $500 scholarship from the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, presented by Jefferson County Sheriff Peter R. Barnett. The merit-based award is bestowed to a student enrolled full-time at a community college who is majoring in criminal justice, police science or equivalent and expresses an intent to pursue a career in the criminal justice field.

"If I could do the criminal justice program at JCC all over again, I absolutely would,” says Daniels. “I advise anyone interested in a career in criminal justice to take this program. I can’t thank the people in the criminal justice department enough for helping me get to where I am today."

Daniels is expected to graduate this month with an associate in science (A.S.) degree in Criminal Justice. While at Jefferson, he earned Dean’s List honors, completed an internship with the Camden Police Department, and participated on the College’s trap shooting team. Following graduation, he plans to take the civil service exam for the Sheriff’s Office. His long-term goal is to become a deputy sheriff in Oswego County.
