Published: February 04, 2020

Jefferson Community College (JCC) announces the launch of a new associate in science degree program in Healthcare Management. Students may apply now and register for spring 2020 semester late session (8-week) classes that begin March 16, 2020 and wrap up by May 7, 2020. Applying to Jefferson is free!

Designed to be the first two years of a four-year education, Jefferson has transfer agreements with SUNY Canton and SUNY Empire State. SUNY Canton offers a bachelor of science degree program in Health Care Management that can be completed 100% online and SUNY Empire offers a bachelor of science degree program in Business, Management and Economics with a concentration in Health Care Management. Additionally, through the Jefferson Higher Education Center (JHEC) on campus, students can pursue a bachelor of science degree in Health Services Administration from partnering institution Bryant & Stratton College.
Jefferson’s healthcare management program is appropriate for students who wish to pursue positions with hospitals, physicians’ offices, clinics, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, and numerous other types of healthcare-related facilities.

Graduates of healthcare management will have an understanding of healthcare law and ethical principles in the context of the healthcare environment, have the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form and have the specialized vocabulary utilized in the healthcare industry, ability to motivate, lead individuals and teams in a healthcare setting, identify current issues and trends affecting the U.S. healthcare delivery system and strategies to address the issues and have a basic knowledge of healthcare finance and efficient use of resources.

“The Healthcare Management program was created to meet a plethora of jobs in entry level management in the health industry,” said Thomas J. Finch, Jefferson’s vice president for academic affairs. “It also articulates into a program in our JHEC for transfer into a bachelor’s degree program. We are excited to get this program started on our campus.”

All of the required classes for Jefferson’s healthcare management program are offered on campus and several are offered online and at the Fort Drum Education Center. Enrollment is still open for spring 2020 semester. Interested students are encouraged to contact Enrollment Services, 315-786-2437 or admissions@sunyjefferson.edu, as soon as possible to begin the application process.
