Kristi C. Bushey Named A 2024 New Century Workforce Scholar
Published: April 24, 2024
Kristi C. Bushey, Theresa, a student at Jefferson Community College (JCC) has been named a 2024 New Century Workforce Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship. This scholarship is the first of its kind to support students at associate degree-granting institutions on a national scale as they plan to enter the workforce upon completing a degree or certificate. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She also earned a spot on the All-New York Academic Team.
New Century Workforce Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. Over 2,200 students from more than 1,300 college campuses nationwide were nominated. Only one New Century Workforce Scholar was selected from each state and Bushey received the highest score among all applicants from New York.
Bushey, a first-generation student, is currently enrolled in the Natural Sciences, Allied Health and Biological Sciences degree program and she has been accepted into the College’s esteemed nursing A.A.S program for fall 2024.
“We congratulate Kristi for receiving this prestigious scholarship, and we are honored to partner with The Coca-Cola Foundation to recognize these outstanding achievements,” said Phi Theta Kappa’s President and CEO, Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “Scholarship programs like this are integral for creating opportunities for students to succeed as they prepare to enter the workforce and for putting college completion within reach.”
President Daniel J. Dupee, II, says, “This national recognition is well deserved and speaks volumes to Kristi’s commitment to academic excellence and personal development. Kristi has created a pathway to achieve her career goals and her dedication to those goals, while balancing a full-time job and helping fellow students, is to be commended. I am proud of her accomplishments and Jefferson Community College is privileged to play a role in her educational journey.”
