Partnership with MVCC Brings Surgical Technology Program to Watertown
Published: July 14, 2023
A partnership between Jefferson Community College (JCC) and Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) is creating an exciting opportunity for residents of the tri-county region to earn their Surgical Technology Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from MVCC without leaving Watertown.
Surgical technologists are key members of the surgical team who work closely with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesiologists, and other hospital personnel. They set up the operating room, prepare the patient for transportation, help prepare medications, handle surgical equipment, pass the surgical tools to the surgeon and surgical assistant during the operation, and assist in retracting tissues from the patient. Jobs are available in operating rooms, ambulatory surgery center, veterinary clinics, dental offices and others.
Through the JCC/MVCC partnership, first-year general education requirements can be completed at Jefferson before receiving technical training from MVCC. The plan of study and list of course requirements are available on the College’s website. The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and taught by MVCC faculty. Upon successful completion, graduates of the MVCC’s Surgical Technology program will be eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam, which is recognized nationwide.
Classes at Jefferson begin August 28, 2023. Classes are held online, on JCC’s campus or at a clinical site in Jefferson County.
- Current JCC students should contact Mohawk Valley Community College to start the application process.
- Non-JCC students should complete Jefferson’s free admissions application online.
