Jefferson Community College (JCC) is set to host Open House and Career Expo (OHCE) on Friday, March 22, 2024. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Jules Center Commons (Building 6). This reimagined take on the traditional college open house event will offer the standard elements: campus and residence hall tours, presentations on the admissions process and financial aid, and overviews of degree programs, but will also feature over 50 North Country employers who will be on hand to talk with students about career pathways. JCC faculty will partner with the employers to explain the degree programs that translate into the various career objectives.

"Our goal is to create an event that empowers high school seniors with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their college paths and simultaneously, connect them with industry professionals early on in their decision making,” says Chelsea R. Marra, Director of Admissions.

Attendees will have the chance to explore various aspects of student life, including housing, support services, athletics, and campus activities. Additionally, JCC student leaders will be on hand to share their personal experiences in the classroom, residence halls, and sports teams.

Moreover, the career expo segment of the event extends benefits to current JCC students as well, providing information about internship opportunities.

Furthermore, the OHCE event features a live keynote titled WOKE AND BROKE: How To Thrive In a World That’s Not Built For You by Joseph Tran (top right). Inspired by his life-long experience of learning to lean into weird/nerdy/uncool interests, Tran’s show combines self-deprecating humor, outrageous stories of his journey from poor kid in Hollywood to less-poor magician in Hollywood.  Tapping into his talent as stand-up comedian and skill for magic, Tran takes audience members on a rollercoaster ride of young adulthood, skillfully navigating the highs and lows of this pivotal stage in life while empowering attendees to cultivate a resilient mindset, embrace positive habits, and banish negativity from their lives.
