Addiction Treatment Level I Microcredential, First In A Series of Three Trainings Required To Become A CASAC

Jefferson Community College (JCC) is adding Addiction Treatment Training Level 1 to its microcredential offerings. The Addiction Treatment Training Level 1 microcredential is the first in a series of three trainings required to become a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). Classes begin August 26, 2024, and registration is ongoing.

CASACs offer guidance across various areas, including alcoholism, addiction, and depression, supporting individuals in prevention efforts, and aiding their journey towards addiction recovery, behavior modification, or enhanced mental well-being.

Jefferson’s Addiction Treatment Training Level 1 microcredential will enable students to demonstrate competency in several key areas including: current approaches to prevention of alcohol and nicotine addiction, examining the signs, symptoms, and stages of the various classes of drug addiction, and explaining the unique characteristics of case management in substance abuse. Upon successful completion, students will earn nine transferable credit hours that are aligned with the College’s Addiction Studies associate degree program.

In addition to the Addiction Treatment Training Level 1 microcredential, Jefferson also offers a microcredential in Agribusiness and Hospitality (Value Added Food Processing), Business Leadership, Director Support Professional I and II (grant-funded), Fundamentals of Effective Communication, Healthcare Management I and II, Hospitality, Kitchen Basics, Non-profit Leadership, Software Development, and Teaching Assistant Levels II and III.

Microcredentials are targeted courses designed for professionals seeking to upskill, advance careers, or pivot to new fields, as well as college student undecided on a career path. Upon successful completion, students receive a digital badge to include on their resume, electronic portfolio and professional networking sites such as LinkedIn.

Part-time students pursuing a microcredential at JCC have access to the same academic support services as full-time JCC students. Courses are delivered in flexible teaching modalities including online, in-person and hybrid (a combination of in-person and online). Applying for admission to Jefferson is free!
