Jefferson Community College (JCC) and The CDL Schools will offer the next 5-week CDL Class A training program on January 26, 2026, at the Lewis County JCC Education Center in Lowville. Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This hands-on program prepares students to drive both automatic and manual tractor-trailers, qualifying them for a wide range of commercial vehicles, including dump trucks, straight trucks, and snowplows. Upon successful completion, participants are eligible to take the Department of Transportation (DOT) CDL Class A license exam. Applicants must be at least 21 years old to enroll.
The 192-hour curriculum meets Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements and includes:
- 80 hours of classroom, lab, and online instruction to earn the ELDT Theory certification and Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP).
- 110 hours of behind-the-wheel training to prepare for FMCSA Range and Public Road ELDT requirements and the Class A CDL Skills Test.
- Final 2 hours to complete the state Skills Test (road test), including preparation for manual transmission vehicles.
Tuition is $9,495, and funding may be available for qualified applicants. All participants must complete a DOT physical before admission, and a drug test is required after obtaining the CDL permit and prior to behind-the-wheel training. The cost to upgrade from a Class D to a Class A license is not included.
Deadline to apply is January 16, 2026. Apply online and secure your spot today. For more information, call JCC Workforce Solutions at (315) 786-2233.
