Jefferson Continues to Support Local Employers Thru SUNY Workforce Training Grant

Published: March 09, 2026

Jefferson Community College (JCC) is helping local employers upskill their workforce through significantly reduced-cost, customized training made possible by the State University of New York (SUNY) Workforce Development Training Contract Courses Grant. Through this program, Jefferson designs training tailored to each employer’s specific needs in areas such as technology, leadership, communications, office and organizational skills, and other professional or technical topics.

One example of the program in action is a new Customer Service Excellence Training Program launched by Jefferson County. Developed in collaboration with JCC Workforce Solutions and supported by the SUNY Workforce Development Training Grant, the initiative invests directly in the professional growth of the County’s front-line employees with the goal of enhancing the public’s experience with County offices and staff.

"Our front-line staff are the face of Jefferson County Government," said Dylan Soper, Deputy County Administrator. "This partnership with JCC allows the County to provide our team with elite tools for providing the highest level of customer service. The County is committed to a culture of excellence where every resident feels heard and respected."

On March 3, 2026, employees across multiple Jefferson County departments completed the Customer Service Excellence training. The program reflects the commitment of the Jefferson County Board of Legislators to strengthen customer service across forward-facing County offices and equips staff with high-level communication skills to navigate the complexities of public service with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency.

“We are grateful for the ongoing support from the Governor and our state legislators, whose investment in this program continues to make a real difference across the state,” said Joanna Brislan, Director of Military Enrollment and Workforce Solutions at Jefferson. “Their commitment enables us to elevate workforce skills in our region and better serve the employers who count on us as partners in developing strong, resilient teams.”

Depending on the type of training, the SUNY grant covers between 60% and 75% of total project costs, with employers contributing the remaining 25% to 40%. Eligible training must support skill development and career advancement, and employers may receive up to $50,000 in SUNY grant funding per grant period.

In addition to Jefferson County, 16 employers across Jefferson and Lewis counties have already participated in the grant program, strengthening their workforce through customized training solutions.

Looking ahead, JCC Workforce Solutions has been awarded five SUNY Workforce Development Training grants this spring, allowing the College to continue supporting regional employers.
