Get Your Teaching Assistant Level II Microcredential-3 Courses for the Price of 1-Summer 2025

Published: April 16, 2025

Jefferson Community College (JCC) is offering an exceptional opportunity this summer for current and aspiring education professionals. Students can complete three credit-bearing courses—while only paying for one—to earn the Teaching Assistant Level II (TAII) microcredential. Furthermore, the TAII microcredential is eligible for NYS financial aid and students are highly encouraged to apply for financial aid to determine their eligibility.

Designed for individuals who are already certified as Level I Teaching Assistants, as well as those looking to enter the teaching profession, the TAII microcredential consists of three online, credit-bearing courses offered this summer: Principles of Education (EDU 210), Introduction to Psychology (PSY 133), and Research and Composition (ENG 101).

Successful completion of these courses prepares individuals to sit for the New York State Teaching Assistant Level II or Level III certification exam. Students will also earn a digital badge that showcases their knowledge and competencies— ideal for sharing on professional platforms like LinkedIn— as well as nine transferable college credits. These credits may be applied toward Jefferson’s associate degree programs in Early Childhood, Childhood Education, and Physical Education, as well as Jefferson’s jointly registered programs with SUNY Potsdam in Early Childhood/Childhood Education (birth–grade 2 and birth–grade 6).

“The Teaching Assistant Level II microcredential is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to advance their education or career—without the financial barrier,” says Joanna Brislan, Director of Community Services at Jefferson. “Whether you're already working in a school setting or considering a new path in education, this program provides valuable, transferable college credit and practical, hands-on experience to help you grow and succeed in the field.”

To apply for the TAII microcredential, applicants must be either certified as a Teaching Assistant Level I or seeking training to enter the education field. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and must have completed English 100. Those who have not completed English 100 may take Jefferson’s free college placement test to determine eligibility.

To inquire and/or register, contact Chelsea Marra, Director of Admissions at JCC, at (315) 786-6544.
